Richard Dirrenberger, MD
Board-certified neurosurgeon

Dr. Dirrenberger is a board-certified neurosurgeon with Borgess Spine who was trained at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. He practices in the Division of Neurosurgery at Borgess Medical Center and he is also an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at Michigan State University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

At Borgess Medical Center, he has served as Chief of Surgery, Vice Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff. He is also on the Board of Trustees for Borgess Health. He is also on several committees at Borgess Medical Center and chairman of the Neuroscience Integrated Performance Team. He is also director of Neuro Intensive Care at Borgess Medical Center. He is director of neurosurgical research at the Borgess Research Institute.

Dr. Dirrenberger received his undergraduate degree and medical degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago and went on to complete an internship at UCLA-Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, California. His general surgery training was at the University of Minnesota and his residency in Neurological Surgery was at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He also holds a Master of Science in Neurological Surgery from the University of Minnesota. During his medical training, Dr. Dirrenberger was a member of Omega Beta Pi Pre-Medical Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Dirrenberger also served as a General Medical Office for the United States Air Force.

He is a member of the American Medical Association, Michigan State Medical Society, Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Michigan Association of Neurological Surgeons, Mayo Clinic Alumni Association and the American College of Surgeons.
